Brandon Fischer's Recommended Reading
- How Now Shall We Live - Chuck Colson
Description: This may be my favorite book right now. I believe
it is the greatest overview of apologetics one can own. The
book looks at the Christian worldview through the lens of
our creation, fall, and redemption, and compares them to the
viewpoints of our culture and society. Colson then takes that
information and lays out an agenda for how Christians should
function and live out their faith in society.
- What's So Amazing About Grace - Philip
Yancy
Description: A wonderful book dealing with, as Yancy quotes,
the one aspect of our faith that separates it from every other
religion and ideology: Grace. The book will definitely give
you a new appreciation for the grace of God and the grace
we are to extend to others.
- A Life of Prayer - Paul Cedar
Description: This book changed my view of prayer, as well
as gave many practical concepts that were easily relatable
to life. I have used the material in this book in many Bible
Studies and devotionals.
- Fresh Wind Fresh Fire - Jim Cymbala
Description: The words in this book will give you a new understanding
into the POWER of prayer and the need to seek the Lord in
everything we do.
- Ruthless Trust - Brendan Manning
Description: If you have not ever read anything by Brendan
Manning, you need to. So many of us do not know what it means
to truly trust the Lord, and this book addresses that issue
and speaks directly to your heart.
- Mere Christianity - C.S. Lewis
Description: This is the book you give a person who is wanting
to know what Christianity is "all about." It lays
out the case for the existence of a personal God, salvation
through Christ alone, then looks into different areas of a
Christian Life; from marriage to pride to hope.
- Rookie - Jerry B. Jenkins
Description: This is not like the recent movie or the cheesy
Disney movie, "Rookie of the Year." The story is
about a young boy from a broken home who makes it to the major
leagues by hitting golf balls out of a pitching machine in
his basement at 100 miles an hour. I read it when I was little
and still say it is the best fiction book I have read. Good
luck finding it in print.
- 7 Habits of Highly Effective People - Steven
Covey
Description: Millions have read this book about living an
effective life. Christians could do well by reading these
types of books, and the practical information Covey presents
should be evident in the life of every Christian.
- Love God With All Your Mind - J.P. Moreland
Description: This book shows the need to use our BRAINS in
our pursuit of God. It looks at theology and philosophy.
- When God Whispers Your Name - Max Lucado
Description: A classic Lucado book with great short stories
that speak straight to the heart.
