| How I came to accept Jesus: |
As a child I grow up in a catholic Italian family in Buffalo, New York. I had always believed in a God and I knew of Jesus but I was never told that I could have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Throughout middle school and high school I tried to fill the emptiness that I felt with running. The faster I got and the more competitions that I won the more running became my identity. Even though this brought me all the attention that I wanted it also brought me body image issues and insecurities that I couldn't fix with a first place metal. When I went to college I left home and moved across the country to run on the cross-country and track teams at the University of Arizona. I was so home sick but God had placed a hard core Christian girl (who was also my teammate) as my roommate. We hit it off from the very first day that we met. We did everything together and so naturally I followed her to church and to a weekly meeting at Athletes in Action. It was there that I had met the most friendly, authentic people of my life, which was such a witness to me. And I would listen to their testimonies and cry because the Holy Spirit was working on my heart. Throughout my freshman year I would go to retreats, church and even prayer meetings but I just couldn't let go of my identity in running and put my trust in Christ. It wasn't until my sophomore year where I trusted and wanted Jesus to take control of my life and that is when I prayed to receive Him. I thank God for using AIA and crusade students that showed me Christ's love and who told me about how I could know God. |
